Sleeping in Düsseldorf: InterContinental

In the beginning of August, we went to Düsseldorf for a mini-break. We stayed at the InterContinental Düsseldorf at the Könnigshalle (nowadays it is called Kö59). Our room was a suite: the sitting area and...

...the bedroom.

The closet.

The bathroom, with shower and...

...bathtub.

Love amenities :-)

The pillows were on the standard German format (that I don't really like, as they are kind of square and huge). But...

...a bit disappointing to find a repaired pillow case in a five start hotel.

Actually, the entire experience was not really nice. I booked our room via Secret Escapes website (we got a very good price in the portal - this is also why I booked the suite). When we arrived at the reception, there was nobody at the counter (although we could hear the personal laughing and talking in a backroom). After waiting some minutes, we decided to call someone and were handed the keys. When we arrived to the room, we had given a standard room instead of a suite. We went back to the reception and they gave us the right room category (although no apologies for the mistake). Arriving to the room, it was not clear where our complimentary water was - so I called reception to clarified.
After a not so nice welcome, we decided to go for a swim. The hotel has an agreement with a fitness center that has a swimming pool. We went down to the fitness center and when we arrived, they asked us for our Covid test. We had already shown it at the reception, so it was quite annoying to have to go back to the room to pick it up - and, if this was the standard procedure, why did the reception not tell us in advance, as we asked where the swimming pool was?
In the end, I was so annoyed that I send a message via Instagram to the hotel. They were very fast in replying (and very polite). Some minutes later, someone from the reception called us and asked what the problem was. This was quite irritating again: as I had described all the issues in my message, why could the person that had received it not briefed the reception?
Over all, very disappointing for a 5 stars hotel - will definitely not go back.

After all my complains, we got a welcome plate. That, actually, I would expect as a normal procedure for people booking a suite.

The good thing of the hotel? It is located right at the Kö - it was nice to go for a walk and enjoy the region.
