Restaurant Session (at Damme, Belgium): De Zuidkant

  

We went for dinner at restaurant De Zuidkant✨from chef Patrick Van Hoorn in Damme. Love the facade and...

 

...the interior.

 

Big glass doors facing a quiet and nice courtyard.

 

As aperitif, I had the house cocktail.
 

With the aperitif, some bites. 

 

 

Warm bread, with butter and olive oil. 

 

As first dish, grey shrimp, lettuce and cauliflower.

I had the wine pairing. With the grey shrimps, a glass of 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon from Pikes.

 

Turbot, asparagus and estragon. Delicious!

With the second dish, a glass of 2021 Chardonnay from Bogle Family Vineyards.

 

Porc cheeks, mustard, celery and Belper Knolle. Lots of flavour!

A glass of Tonalite teroldego rotaliano from De Vigili. 

 

As main dish, lamb fillet, peas, broad beans and wild garlic.

With the lamb, a glass of Dueterre Cuveé Rosso D'Italia from Azienda Agricola Masseria Tagaro

Restaurant Session (in Bruges, Belgium): House of Waffles

 Before leaving Bruges, a stop at the House of Waffles (recommended by our hotel). 

 

A hot freshly made waffle with...

...hot chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream and cream. Delicious!

Visiting Bruges - By Boat

On Saturday morning, time to explore Bruges by boat.

 

Through the channels and...

 

...passing under very low bridges :-)

 

The captain is also the tour guide.

Such beautiful buildings directly at the water!

Passing by the Boniface bridge and...

 

...spotting the smallest gothic window behind the palace of the Lords of Gruuthuse (who had the monopoly of the beer spice gruut).

 

Beautiful swans swimming undisturbed by the boats.

 

Such a beautiful town!

 

After the boat trip, we went to the central square (and for a waffle) before heading home.

Visiting Bruges - The Madonna and Child

 

The ladies on the Boniface Bridge. The view...

...is so scenic!

 

 

Entering in 'The Church of Our Lady', to see...

 

..."The Madonna and Child" sculpted by Michelangelo in 1506! The only Michelangelo's sculpture that left Italy during his lifetime.

It was stolen by Napoleon, and again stolen by the nazis, but always got back to its original place!

 

Impressive craftsmanship!

Restaurant Session (in Bruges, Belgium): Bistro Christophe

 After a beautiful walk to enjoy the town, we went to...

...Bistro Christophe for dinner.

It is outside the tourist tracks (so no scenic views) but it has delicious food, friendly service and a charming bistro-like decoration.

Starting with an aperitif that came...

 

...with appetizers: a portion of breaded carrots.

 

As starter, homemade shrimp croquettes, salad and fried parsley.

The main dish: grilled scallops, green asparagus and mashed sweet potato

Sleepding in Brugges: Die Swaene

 From Brussels, we went to Bruges to spend the night. We went directly to our hotel - Die Swaene. To enjoy the swimming pool and have a short nap before going for a walk.
