Restaurant Session (in Cluj, Romania): Baracca

On my last night in Romania, I went for dinner at Baracca (my favourite restaurant in Cluj!).

Beautiful decoration.
 
As starter, shiitake mushrooms - Transylvanian shiitake and cheese, organic egg yolk.
 
As main dish, pastificio dei campi artizanal pasta, with cream cheese, parmesan and bacon.
 
Sweet time! Caramelized apple tart (with apples of Transylvania) and English cream. Sooo good!

Restaurant Session (in Cluj, Romania): Klausen Burger

In the evening, went with some colleagues for dinner at Klausen Burger. From their rooftop...

 We got some appetizers to share, including a typical Romanian dish (nop, don't remember the name) with cheese filling. Really nice!

Hummus.
 
As main dish, beef steak with mashed sweet potatoes.

Restaurant Session (in Cluj, Romania): 25th) Downtown Flavours

In the evening, I met with a colleague from my team and we went for a walk and dinner in the city center. Passing by the status of Avram Iancu, located between the Lucian Blaga National Theater and the Orthodox Cathedral Dormition of the Mother of God.

We went to the restaurant 25th) Downtown Flavours.
 
 We ordered some starters to share.

 
 Love the salate de vinete (eggplat dish tradicional from Romania)!! Just delicious!!
 
 Fried squid.
 
As main dish, a burger with truffle French fries.

Sleeping in Cluj (Romania): Hampton by Hilton

Flying from Dortmund to Cluj on a business trip (leadership training). Wizzair is not my favourite airline, but the direct flights are really practical.

Staying at the Hampton by Hilton. It was ok but not my favourite choice in the town.

Restaurant Session (in Cluj, Romania): Baracca

In our second night in Cluj, we went for dinner at restaurant Baracca, from chef Roland Suciu. As starters, we ordered some dishes to share. Beef tartar with 21 days age beef, homemade black garlic, tomatoes, egg yolk - so good!
 
Fish tartar, cucumber and wasabi, with a lemon foam.

Foie gras and pears...
 
...with little bread rolls.
 
Goat cheese mousse (goat cheese Feleac - Cluj), lemon and Comté. Delicious!
 
As main dish, I had 21 days aged beef tenderloin with celery root, mushrooms and beef jus.
 
Sweet time! Caramelized apple tart with apples of Transylvania, English cream. Very good!

This year, in August 2024, Baracca unfortunately closed its doors. That's really a pity!
 
After dinner, a nice walk to our hotel.

In the evening, dinner at Carrousel by Chio in Cluj. Starters to share. One thing I can't resist: salata de vinete ( or aubergine salad) - love it!! :-)

Sleeping in Cluj (Romania): Double Tree by Hilton Cluj

Mid June, business trip to Cluj, in Romania. I went with some colleagues, and we got our plane from Maastricht airport.

Boarding includes walking next to the runway. The not so cool part? Waiting in the sun, in a queue, to get inside the plane.

Stairway to Heaven :-)

Arriving in Cluj, and going directly to our hotel: Double Tree by Hilton. Nice room, with lots of space. I also love the heated swimming pool in the rooftop, with view to the entire city - perfect for a after work exercising session.
 
 
 As a bonus, in the check-in, you get a warm chocolate chip cookie - really good and crunchy :-)

Restaurant Session (em Cluj, na Romênia): restaurante Chios


No dia seguinte, depois do café da manha no hotel, hora de ir trabalhar novamente.

E, depois do trabalho, hora de ir passear com a equipe que eu estava visitando. Fomos dar uma volta pelo Parque Central Simion Bărnuţiu, com seu antigo cassino e...

...linda fonte.

Caminhando a beira do lago já dá para avistar...

 ...o restaurante onde fomos jantar: Chios.

No lago, vários pedalinhos em formato de flamingo rosas e...

 ...dragoes verdes. Mas essa atividade fica para uma próxima vez :-)

O restaurante possui um belo terraco, mas como estava bem quente...

 ...decidimos jantar no ambiente interno.

Para refrescar, nada como um cocktail! Highlife: vodka Absolut de tangerina, hortela, limao, oxicoco (cranberry) e flor de sabugueiro.

Como entrada, pedimos três para compartilhar.
Salada de berinjela, com berinjela defumada (prato típico da Romênia) com aroma de mostarda, cebola, ovos de codorna, chutney de pimentao vermelho, emulsao de rúcola e torradinha. A pasta de berinjela estava ótima!!
[Aubergine Salad: Home-smoked, mustard-flavoured aubergines, onions, quail eggs, with a side of roasted peper chutney, arugula emulsion and bread]

Prato de presunto prosciutto com figos. Prosciutto, roma, cream cheese, nozes caramelizadas, valeriana, figos, e microverdes. Adorei a combinacao do prosciutto com o figo!

Queijo halloumi grelhado com chutney de cebola, fondue de vegetais e microverdes. Achei o queijo halloumi muito sem gosto, nao pediria esse prato novamente.
[Grilled halloumi with onion chutney, vegetables fondue and microgreens salad. Halloumi cheese with onions, carrots, garlic, cherry tomatoes, thyme honey, olive oil, white wine, aged vinegar, sugar, sweet cream, pepper sauce, Parmesan, valerian, fennel chips and arugula emulsion.]
Como prato principal, tournedo Rossini com purê de batata roxa e chips.

Voltando ao hotel, hora de dormir para pegar...

...o vôo no dia seguinte. Tchau, Cluj, adorei minha primeira estadia na Romênia!
